Boy calls OnStar when left inside cold car; Dad arrested

FLAT ROCK, Al. -

A 5-year-old boy called OnStar from inside his father's vehicle after he got cold from being left alone inside the car while his dad hunted.

AL.com reports Brandon Chambers, 29, was charged with endangering a child Wednesday after officers responded to the area of Flat Rock in Jackson County, about 35 miles southeast of Chattanooga.

Police said Chambers left the child inside his car for around two hours as he hunted.

Once the little boy got cold, he activated the car's OnStar system, who then alerted local officials.

OnStar is a communications service inside cars that connects drivers to representatives that aid in emergency services, vehicle diagnostics and directions.

Deputies arrived as the father was returning from hunting.  The car's temperature was reportedly down to 31 degrees.

Chambers was arrested and released on $500 bond.

The 5-year-old boy was released into the custody of his stepmother.
