'Contributor' to double price, publishing schedule in April

Just five months ago, the future of The Contributor, Nashville's street newspaper focusing on homelessness, was uncertain.

However, the newspaper announced Wednesday that instead of being published twice a month at one dollar per issue, it will release new issues weekly at $2 a piece.

During a cry for donations, an exhaustive review was completed to examine the paper's operations and finances.

With the help of Kevin Crumbo from Kraft CPAs, one of the city's largest accounting firms, they determined an increase in cost would be necessary to continue the newspaper and be financially sustainable for years to come.

As of now, vendors buy each copy of The Contributor for 25 cents and sell them for $1, keeping the profit for themselves.

The new structure will raise the cost of each copy to 75 cents for vendors. Since they will be sold at $2 each, the vendors will also see their first pay increase since the newspaper began in 2007.

The changes will begin in April.
