A driver sustained critical injuries after he lost control of his vehicle near Nipper's Corner in Nashville early Wednesday morning.
Officials told News 2 the driver was headed toward Old Hickory Boulevard on Edmondson Pike when he failed to make a curve just before 4 a.m.
The vehicle went off the roadway and struck a metal utility pole, sending it back across all lanes of traffic and coming to rest on the opposite sidewalk.
The driver was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with critical injuries.
Edmondson Pike was shutdown near the crash as officers investigated.
Nashville Electric Service was called to the scene to check on the utility pole, which sustained a large dent when the car hit.
