Grocery stores could soon sell beer Sunday morning

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Grocery stores in Nashville are one step closer to selling beer as early as 10 a.m. on Sundays.

At Tuesday's council meeting, the proposal sailed through without any public discussion.

Under the current law, stores are prohibited from selling beer between 3 a.m. and Noon.

Restaurants and venues, such as LP Field, are already allowed to sell alcohol at 10 a.m.

Council members said they have heard perspective from people for and against the proposal.

"I've had some of my constituents that say they would like to see it, and others say they don't want it. So I would say my district it probably about half and half," said Council Member Robert Duvall.

Tuesday, the motion passed without any council opposition.

The proposal now heads to the committee for a third reading.  If approved, council members said changes at grocery stores could come as early as this month.
