Former Titans coach Mike Munchak breaks silence during interview with News 2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

After the Tennessee Titans parted ways with head coach Mike Munchak on Saturday, he broke his silence via an interview with News 2 Sunday night.

Munchak's relationship with the team lasted over 30 years, with him as the head coach for the last three.

The buzz around Music City led many to believe his firing had to do with his allegiance to his friends on the coaching staff, a claim Munchak vehemently denies.

"It's about leadership. It has nothing to do with the friendship. These guys know that," he stated. "They would leave in a heartbeat if I told them that was a concern; if it had anything to do with me keeping my job or us going forward."

He explained it was not about one person, but about a plan going forward and the best way to do so.

"Either way there was going to be a change made, and we agreed on some of it. It wasn't something that we 100% were seeing differently," he told News 2.

Munchak does want to coach again, either as an assistant or head coach.

"I love coaching, and I love teaching. It's something that I want to continue to do. In what capacity, I'm not sure yet. I know I can contribute to an organization in a positive way, so I'm looking forward to it," he said.
