Tennessee releases top baby names for 2013

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The state has released its most popular baby names for 2013 and Emma and William again top the list for the third year in row.

According to a release from the Tennessee Department of Health, William has been the No. 1 name chosen for new baby boys born in Tennessee for seven straight years.

Emma repeats as the most popular name for Tennessee baby girls after taking the top spot on the list in 2011.

The top 10 names Tennessee parents chose for their new babies born in 2013 are as follows:

Girls

  1. Emma
  2. Ava
  3. Sophia
  4. Olivia
  5. Abigail 
  6. Isabella
  7. Madison
  8. Elizabeth
  9. Emily
  10. Addison

Boys

  1. William
  2. Mason
  3. Elijah
  4. James
  5. Noah 
  6. Jacob
  7. Liam
  8. Ethan
  9. Jackson
  10. John

Elizabeth is a new addition to the 2013 list for girls, replacing Chloe as the eighth most popular name.

The other girls' names in the top 10 are unchanged from 2012, although their rankings have shifted.

John is a new addition to the top 10 list for boys, replacing Michael as No. 10 from last year.  The top four choices for boys' names remain unchanged from 2012.

The No. 2 names, Ava and Mason, are also unchanged since 2012.
