NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The head coaching carousel continues to turn as NFL and college coaches are hired and fired.

Thursday morning, Penn State officially announced their head coach, Bill O'Brien, will take the head coaching position with the NFL's Houston Texans.

The athletic director for the Nittany Lions said they will start their nationwide search for a new head man immediately.

Both Titans head coach Mike Munchak, who played college ball for Penn State, and Vanderbilt head football coach James Franklin are reportedly in the running.

Reports out last month said Munchak has showed interest in returning to his alma mater but Munchak denied those reports.

Franklin grew up in Pennsylvania and is an offense-first coach, something PSU is looking for.

Franklin is currently in Birmingham as the Commodores get ready to face Houston in the Compass Bowl on Saturday.

Munchak is scheduled to meet with new Titans CEO Tommy Smith regarding the future of the franchise in the coming days.

The Titans finished 7-9 this season and missed the playoffs despite spending $100 million in free agency in the off-season.
