Mike Munchak continues waiting, still Titans head coach

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The season has been over for three days and Mike Munchak still does not know if it is his last as head coach.

Munchak still has one year left on his contract, but he still has to meet with new Titans CEO Tommy Smith about his future.

The Titans finished 7-9 after spending $100-million in free agency in the off season and promising fans they would not be disappointed last year during training camp.

Fans and the team clearly were as the Titans slumped from 3-1 to 5-9 after starting quarterback Jake Locker suffered a pair of injuries, the second one ended his season.

Five teams fired their head coaches Monday.

The Houston Texans fired Gary Kubiak during the season and reports are they have already reached an agreement with Penn State's Bill O'Brien to be the team's new head coach.

While the Titans wait the Redskins, Browns, Bucs, Vikings and Lions have all begun interviewing candidates to take over their teams.

The pool of candidates could be smaller even if Smith makes a decision soon.

Smith had said he would take a few days after the season and expectations are for him to meet with Munchak and GM Ruston Webster and make a decision Thursday or Friday.

Munchak says he's not reading into the delay, noting Jeff Fisher was fired after the Super Bowl.
