NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Centennial Hospital near downtown Nashville welcomed a bouncing baby boy as its first baby born in 2014.

Braeden Cole Matthews was born at 3:36 a.m. weighing in at 7 pounds and 9 ounces after his mother Rachel was in labor for just four hours.

The new mother told Nashville's News 2 she and her husband Todd were at home ringing in the New Year by watching the ball drop in New York when she went into labor.

"It's the best New Year's gift and a good way to start 2014," she said.

Braeden was due on December 27. He is the couple's first child.

The hospital presented the family with a gift basket in honor of their special delivery.

The first baby born in Middle Tennessee was born at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital.

Rob and Carrie Robinson welcomed Ashlin Lily Robinson at 12:40 a.m.

Ashlin was a bit of a surprise because she wasn't due until January 3.
