NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A man is in custody after he refused to pay his cab fare then set his hotel room on fire Wednesday morning.

According to police, Michael Piergeorge, 22, arrived to the Wingate Hotel where he was staying via a taxi around 10:30 a.m. and gave the driver a cancelled credit card.

Piergeorge then ran inside the hotel, where he was later located by officers.

Authorities knocked on the door for 45 minutes until Piergeorge finally told them that if they messed with him he would stab them in the neck with scissors.

He finally left the hotel room and officers located a pair of scissors in his back pocket, according to an affidavit.

As officers spoke to Piergeorge, the fire alarm inside his room went off and smoke began pouring from underneath the door.

He had set fire to a table inside his room. Guests were evacuated as a precaution, but the fire was quickly extinguished.

Upon a search of the room, officers found a marijuana grinder, a jar of hash oil and a McCormick oregano spice bottle filled with marijuana.

Piergeorge had also defaced the walls inside his hotel room with the phrase, "F#%* THE POLICE," authorities stated.

He was charged with theft of services, aggravated assault on an officer, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Wednesday's incident occurred across the street from a hotel that caught on fire Tuesday.
