A vehicle struck a utility pole and ran into a south Nashville home Monday night.
The suspected drunk driver was driving a black truck when he swerved and snapped the utility pole around 10 p.m. in the 90 block of Oriel Avenue.
After the truck hit the pole in the passenger's side, it continued into the front steps of a nearby residence.
One witness told News 2 he saw the man swerve like there was something in the road, then ran off the road.
The witness rushed to the driver to see if he was okay, and reported the driver attempted to drive away.
The witness took the man's key and told him to stay put until authorities arrived.
Police believe alcohol and a high rate of speed may be a factor in the crash.
Nashville Electric Service was called to the scene. As of Monday night, customers in the area still had power, but crews will need to shut off service so they can transfer the lines and change the utility pole.
The driver was taken into custody. Information regarding his condition or possible charges was not immediately released.
