Metro police aim to keep drunk drivers off the road

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Metro police are working to keep the roads clear of drunk drivers over the holidays.

Monday night, authorities set up a DUI checkpoint on West End Avenue near 31st Avenue.

Extra officers are on hand from now through January 2 as part of the effort to keep drivers safe for New Year's Eve.

The extra help is paid through a grant from the governor's highway safety office.

Recently, the Tennessee Highway Patrol started their "no refusal" campaign to cut down on drinking, driving and fatal crashes.

The "no refusal" enforcement allows officers to seek search warrants for blood samples when they suspect a driver to be impaired.
