Nashville police say a man was driving drunk and without a license when he crashed his car early Monday morning in Antioch, seriously injuring his passenger.
First responders found a mangled two-door coupe just off Bell Road near the Mt. View Road intersection shortly after 1 a.m.
According to witnesses, the driver, identified as Juan Garcia, accelerated to a high rate of speed seconds before leaving the roadway.
The vehicle struck an MTA bus stop and then flipped several times before coming to a stop about 30 yards away.
The incident left a trail of debris in the road and along the shoulder of the roadway.
Garcia, 28, was taken to General Hospital with minor injuries.
His passenger, Omar Garcia, 23, was critically injured and taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
No other vehicles were involved.
Investigators said Juan Garcia smelled of alcohol and showed indicators of impairment.
He is now jailed on charges of DUI and driving without a license.
Only one lane of Bell Road between Mt. View Road and Bell Forge Lane was open while crews cleared the accident. The road has since reopened.
