Man arrested for shooting at Smyrna motel

SMYRNA, Tenn. -

Police have arrested a man for a shooting that occurred last week in Smyrna at the Deerfield Inn and identified the victim.

Pierre Burns, 20, of Smyrna, was shot in the parking lot of the hotel located on Courier Place just after 11 p.m. on December 20.

According to Burns and a witness they were sitting in a vehicle when the shooting took place.

After Burns was shot, a friend immediately drove him to Stonecrest Medical Center, but before they arrived they were involved in a car accident.

When officials arrived at the scene of the accident, Burns was then transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Smyrna police have arrested Jeremy Rivers, 26, of Smyrna for the shooting of Burns.

Rivers has been charged with one count of especially aggravated robbery. His bond has been set at $100,000. Rivers will be in court on January 6.

According to police, they are still investigating the shooting and hope that more individuals will be charged soon.

No other details were immediately released.
