CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a tractor trailer Friday morning in Clarksville.

Police told News 2 the incident involving Christopher Johnson occurred around 7:15 a.m. on Highway 76 between Fire Station Road and Hutco Drive.

Family members said it was 44-year-old Johnson's routine to walk or ride his bike each morning on the roadway.

Police said the truck driver, Edward Loomis of Clarksville, was heading northeast toward Interstate 24 when the tractor trailer hit Johnson.

"Nobody was going through. They shut down all the traffic, so it was crazy. There were cops everywhere," said motorist Victoria McDonald, who was in the area Friday morning.

People who live near stretch of roadway expressed concern after learning of Johnson's untimely death.

Resident Tracy Phillips told News 2 the area is a dangerous stretch of roadway.

"Well, I am afraid for everyone who is traveling on the road," Phillips said. "I have three children. I thought about moving from this area because I am afraid it is going to be my child or my husband."

There are no pending charges at this time.

The accident remains under investigation.
