BROOKLINE, New Hampshire -

A Massachusetts volunteer firefighter made a horrific discovery on Christmas Eve when he determined the woman he was pulling out of a mangled vehicle was his daughter.

WMUR-TV reported 30-year-old Katie Hamilton was killed Tuesday morning in Brookline, New Hampshire after her car was rear-ended and pushed into oncoming traffic where it was struck a second time.

Hamilton's father was among the emergency workers who responded to the deadly accident.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

"It could be anything. We don't have our fingers on exactly what it [was] just yet at this point. But, we are pretty certain that speed and impairment were not a factor so that would rule it down to driver distraction at this point," Police Chief Bill Quigley said.

No other injuries were reported.

Charges have not been filed.
