Ala. Senator to introduce resolution in support of Duck Dynasty star

An Alabama lawmaker will soon introduce legislation in support of the patriarch of A&E's hit show Duck Dynasty.

The Daily Home reported State Senator Jerry Fielding (R) announced Monday he will introduce the Senate resolution in the upcoming legislative session to show support to Phil Robertson amidst a public controversy.

Robertson, star of the TV show, witnessed a lot of backlash after an interview with GQ Magazine surfaced, in which he voices his opinions on homosexuality and other hot political topics.

Following the backlash, A&E suspended Robertson from appearing in the show.

Senator Fielding stated the television network "bowed to pressures from liberal groups rather than respecting Robertson's biblically correct views."

He believes Robertson's values are commonly held in Alabama.

"There's a clear double standard in the media favoring a liberal world view. When it's used to silence and punish Christians for stating their beliefs, that's when we must defend the rights of individuals to exercise their free speech without fear of politically-motivated repercussion," he told the newspaper.

The resolution will be introduced once the legislature convenes on January 14.
