Man arrested after holding 5 people hostage

Metro police arrested a man for holding five people, including children, hostage at gunpoint inside a west Nashville apartment Sunday morning.

Police were called to an apartment in the 4400 block of Tennessee Avenue around 1 a.m. to investigate a kidnapping.

Authorities reported Jacarlvis Marable, 21, began fighting with his girlfriend inside her apartment before hitting her in the face.

Four other victims were inside the apartment at the time, including two children ages one and three.

Police said he dragged his girlfriend to the bedroom and told the others to get into the front room or "things were going to get ugly."

He reportedly threatened his girlfriend and another adult with a handgun.

At one point, the victims in the front room said they heard a gunshot in the next room.

Police said Marable refused to answer the door, so they used a loud speaker to try to get him to come outside.

After about 30 minutes police said he surrendered peacefully.  No one was seriously hurt.

Marable was charged with three counts of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping, and two aggravated assaults.
