Nearly two weeks have passed and still no answers since someone gunned down a Smyrna man in a car alongside Interstate 24.
Around 6:20 a.m. on Sunday, December 15, a passerby found Jackie Warpoole Jr., 47, shot to death behind the wheel of his silver Dodge Magnum near the Almaville Road exit just a few miles from his home.
The case remains unsolved but investigators continue to search for the person responsible.
His family says the father and soon-to-be grandfather was well-liked in his community.
There was no sign Warpoole had car trouble but the family believes it's possible he could have stopped for a motorist who needed help before being shot.
"It's very likely. It's just kind of his nature and being that time of the morning, I believe that could have happened," said Angela Warpoole, the victim's wife.
There are no suspects and no known motive. The family hopes a large reward fund will entice someone to come forward with the information police need.
Friends of the victim are offering a $15,000 reward for anyone with tips leading to an arrest.
"We need closure. It's never going to be easy, it's never going to go away but we need to know and we need justice to be served for him," said Angela Warpoole.
Anyone with information or who may have seen anything unusual in the area is urged to call Detective Jamin Humphress at 615-904-3054 and leave a message.
Warpoole is survived by his wife, his son and daughter-in-law who are expecting a baby girl in January.
