BOSTON, Mass. -

A man who sustained horrific injuries at the Boston Marathon earlier this year is now engaged to a nurse he met while hospitalized.

James Costello was with friends near the marathon finish line when the bombings occurred on April 15.

Costello sustained burns to his arm and leg. He was hospitalized at Massachusetts General Hospital for nearly two weeks before being transported to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.

While there, Costello met nurse Krista D'Agostino, who he shared mutual friends with, but had never met.

"After sharing a handful of conversations I realized not only how beautiful she was, but also what a kind heart she had," Costello said. "I somehow convinced her to attend a benefit with me, which turned into a few dates, which turned into a few inseparable months."

Costello asked D'Agostino to be his wife while in Europe on an all-expense paid trip with other marathon victims and first responders, WVCB reported.

"I'm happy to announce that we will spend the rest of our lives together. I now realized why I was involved in the tragedy. It was to meet my best friend, and the love of my life," Costello said.

The couple has not yet set a wedding date.
