Former captain accused of stealing fees from registered sex offenders

A former captain of the Bedford County Sheriff's Department was arrested Monday after being indicted by a grand jury on charges of theft.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested Rebecca Hord, 58, for taking money collected by the sheriff's department from registered sex offenders.

An investigation into Hord began in January 2012 after an internal audit revealed financial discrepancies.

Authorities said she would take money sex offenders paid as registration fees and issue generic receipts, but records would show the fees were unpaid.

According to the TBI, Hord stole approximately $10,200 from the county.

She was booked into the Bedford County jail and released on her own recognizance.

Hord is due in court December 20.
