CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

A man was arrested on multiple charges after a fatal hit-and-run accident in Clarksville on Saturday.

US Army Captain David Elliott, 26, of Fort Benning, Georgia, was charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, driving on a revoked license and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police reported Elliott struck another member of the military, identified as 21-year-old Private First Class Austin McReynolds, around 2:30 a.m. that morning on Tylertown Road.

Elliott was leaving O'Connors Irish Pub when he allegedly struck McReynolds, who was walking down the road for unknown reasons, and fled the scene.

McReynolds was killed in the collision.

Authorities searched the area following the accident and eventually found a 2008 Ford Expedition they felt was suspicious.  The SUV also had front-end damage consistent with the collision.

Captain Elliott was identified as the driver shortly after.

According to police, he admitted to drinking at the pub and thought he had struck a deer after leaving.

Elliott was booked into the Montgomery County Jail where he is being held without bond.

He is due in court on Monday.
