One lane of Interstate 40 East in Wilson County is closed Wednesday due to potholes caused by the recent freezing and thawing. The roadway at Mt. Juliet Road will remain closed through Thursday as crews work to make repairs. "You hit one of these holes and bust a tire, lose control of your vehicle and you've got serious injury or fatality," said TDOT worker Steve Elliott. Two lanes will remain open during the repairs.Crews are expected to repair potholes on area interstates before moving on busy secondary roads. Workers remind motorists to drive with caution as crews perform the dangerous jobs of patching trouble spots. "You're out there and people are just zipping by texting, talking on the cell phone or whatever and we're standing out there, we've got families too," said Elliott. On average, workers repair 20 potholes per day, however that number has recently increased to 100 each day.
