MEMPHIS, Tenn. -

A west Tennessee woman has been charged in the death of her husband after she fatally shot him inside their home over the weekend.

The Dyersburg State Gazette reported Angela Brewer, 43, of Brighton, just north of Memphis, woke around 5:30 a.m. when she thought she heard an intruder.

Brewer reportedly loaded and cocked a shotgun from the couple's gun case before checking the home, looking out the back and front doors.

When she didn't see anyone, Brewer allegedly went to wake her husband, 37-year-old William "Stan" Brewer, Jr.

The newspaper states she placed the weapon on the bed, pointing the barrel at her husband's head.  Brewer's hand was reportedly on the gun as she leaned over to wake him, causing it to discharge.

Her husband was killed by the gunshot.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation investigated the incident alongside the Tiption County Sheriff's Office.

Brewer was ultimately charged with reckless homicide and aggravated assault.

She is being held at the Tipton County jail without bond.
