Woman crossing Gallatin Avenue hit by car

Posted: Updated:

A pedestrian crossing Gallatin Avenue was struck by a car late Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred just after 3 p.m. near West Eastland Avenue.

A witness on the scene told Nashville's News 2 the elderly victim, identified as Elizabeth Powell, was leaving a nearby shopping center and was using a crosswalk when she was struck as a motorist attempted to make a left turn onto Gallatin Avenue.

Powell was reportedly thrown several feet.

"It was rough to witness [and] to see a person in pain like that," Richie Lee said. "I grabbed her hand and just started talking to her and made sure she didn't move her head."

Powell was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Her injuries are said to be non-life threatening.

The driver does not face any charges.
