NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A two-year-old girl is now in the custody of the Tennessee Department of Children's Services after she was found alone at a south Nashville motel Monday morning.
Housekeeping staff found the girl in one of the rooms at the Drake Motel on Murfreesboro Road around 10:30 a.m.
The manager of the motel told News 2 the child was okay, with no visible injuries.
While officers were on the scene investigating, a man with a key to the room where the child was found returned to the motel.
News 2 has learned he was not cited or arrested because police do not have evidence to prove the child was in his care.
The man told police he was "going to find" the child's mother.
Several hours later DCS reportedly located the girl's mother.
"We have located the mother, and our investigators are trying to learn more about the circumstances at the motel, before they determine the next best steps," department spokesman Rob Johnson said in an email.
News 2 asked DCS if the mother or child has had previous contact with the department.
"At this point, I am unaware of any past history, but that too is being reviewed by our workers at this moment," Johnson wrote.
