Heavy ice causes trees to fall across Dickson County

DICKSON COUNTY, Tenn. -

Residents in Dickson County received heavy ice damage that caused numerous trees to fall, some on power lines, early Sunday morning.

Lin Flora who lives on Ridge Road in Dickson County was more concerned with what was happening outside his house than inside, where he was losing electricity.

In about a minute, 17 cracks and crashes were counted, which was enough to wake Flora from a sound sleep at 4:30 a.m.

"I kept hearing all of these crashing sounds, and limbs were falling out of my trees. Then this big piece fell out," said Flora.

Ice coated everything. Roads were slick early on, but as the temperatures started to warm, it seemed trees and limbs began crashing to the ground with more frequency.

"And look at them, they're pretty but it's amazing that ice can weigh this much," said Flora.

Flora and his neighbors were fortunate enough to have their power most of the morning.

Once things thaw, he'll have to find some way to get dozens of heavy limbs off his lawn, and proceed with decorating for Christmas.

"As you can tell, these can almost break off. Like I said, it's pretty with the lights on. My icicle lights have icicles," said Flora.
