NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

One man is braving the elements on his bike and putting the pedal to the metal to fight cancer.

Steven Godfrey, 41, stopped by Nashville's News 2 on his way through Tennessee Saturday during his 3,000 mile journey.

Godfrey's fundraising efforts began last year, but his ride was cut short when he learned his dad had cancer.

Now his trip means that much more.

"This is something that I had in works that I was planning to do. It's a method by which to bring some sort of attention to the cause of just trying to help my dad out," Godfrey said.

So far, Godfrey has pedaled nearly 2,500 miles through Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and now Middle Tennessee.

He plans to travel to Clarksville Sunday.
