2 struck by car on West End Avenue

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Two men were injured when they were struck by a vehicle on West End Avenue in Nashville early Friday morning.

The men, identified as Lucas Primero and Giovanni Rosa, were in the center turning lane trying to cross the street in front of the Caterpillar Financial Center near the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel when they were hit around 6:40 a.m.

The driver told police he did not see the pedestrians.

Primero, 25, who was critically injured, and Rosa, 23, were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police said the men are construction workers and were on their way to Vanderbilt's campus for work.  They noted a crosswalk was a mere 300 feet away.

Charges were not filed against the driver. The accident remains under investigation.

West End Avenue was shut down between 21st and 23rd avenues.  The road reopened around 9 a.m.
