First off, for Thursday through Thursday night it is just a cold rain.
The situation is still very much the same as what I described the last several days.
The National Weather Service's map to the right matches that, as well. We are all on the same page.
For Nashville & Metro Area:
Friday during the day will be a cold rain mixing with some sleet with temps above freezing UNTIL late afternoon and around sunset.
From near sunset into the evening, temps should fall to near or below freezing, resulting in a freezing rain & sleet situation that could cause some driving problems after dark. This could include the evening rush hour commute.
The precip should end by midnight, but any slick spots may not improve overnight.
For NW Middle Tennessee including Clarksville, Dover, Paris, Waverly, Erin:
ICE STORM WARNING
With temps falling below freezing sooner, freezing rain and sleet could begin around mid morning Friday. This precip should last into the evening, ending as a little snow.
Driving should become very hazardous there and ice could also accumulate on trees and powerlines, possible causing some power outages.
South & East Middle TN including Murfreesboro, Shelbyville, Columbia, McMinnville, Cookeville:
Some sleet/freezing rain may occur briefly during the evening before midnight, but not as much of a problem with temps not dropping to freezing until near the end of the precip. For travelers headed towards west Tennessee, West Kentucky, Missouri:
Major ice and sleet accumulations will begin tonight.
P. S. Be aware that another freezing rain/sleet situation could occur Saturday night into early Sunday morning from Nashville northwestward, changing to all rain after sunrise on Sunday.
