CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

An attorney representing Vanderbilt University rape suspect Brandon Vandenburg was arrested Tuesday in Clarksville on harassment charges.

Fletcher Long was booked into the Montgomery County jail, though information regarding his arrest was not immediately released.

He has since been released on a $250 bond.

News 2 contacted Long who said, "The whole affair is really ridiculous and not newsworthy."

Long, a longtime criminal attorney in Middle Tennessee, and John Herbison stepped in to represent Vandenburg after the 20-year-old's former attorneys filed a motion to withdraw from the case.

Vandenburg and former teammates Brandon Banks, Cory Batey and Jaborian "Tip" McKenzie are charged with raping an unconscious female student in Vandenburg's dorm room in late June.

All four have since been kicked off Vanderbilt's football team. They have pleaded not guilty to the crime and are out of jail on bond.
