We are going to start the week off mild, even topping out in the 60s on Tuesday-Thursday.
However, by Thursday afternoon a strong arctic front will slowly ease its way across Middle TN, chilling us down for Friday through the weekend.
The 2nd and 3rd graphics show that front stalling out just to our east on Friday because the winds aloft in the jet stream are remaining out of the southwest instead of shifting to northwest.
With the cold air "under-cutting" the warmer southwest winds, we could be setting up for a sleet/freezing rain situation for Friday evening. Sleet is one thing, but freezing rain is the worst.
This is most likely in the west and northwest half of Middle TN where the air is colder.
It also looks like places like Paducah, Jonesboro, Little Rock, & Cape Girardeau could see some significant ice.
There could be another round similar to that Saturday night into early Sunday before changing to rain, but temps may be a few degrees higher for that 2nd event.
This is the type of situation that is subject to change (isn't weather always?) and its only Monday.
We'll keep you posted!
