BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -

Just after shoppers kicked off the busy holiday shopping season on Black Friday, shoppers are encouraged to look to local deals on Small Business Saturday.

The American shopping day was first observed in 2010 and was promoted by American Express, with the goal of stimulating the local economy.

Brentwood Jewelry and Gifts at 7012 Church Street in Brentwood is participating in Small Business Saturday. The store specializes in a variety of special gifts including custom made jewelry, clocks, cufflinks, pens, and even baby gifts.

The owner of Brentwood Jewelry and Gifts, Salem Emamalie, told News 2 they also sell special watches that help support local troops.

"Everything we sell from these watches goes back to support the people in the service…We have one for the Navy, Air Force, [and] Army. And all the proceeds we get from this goes back to help support the family and the folks that came back from the service."

Shoppers can also bring in jewelry to get it repaired and cleaned.

The hashtags, #SmallBusinessSaturday and #ShopSmall, can help shoppers find local deals using twitter, Facebook and other social media.

You can also visit American Express' Shop Small Web site to find out what stores are participating in Small Business Saturday.
