Gunshot victim transports himself to hospital

A man was shot in the torso while fleeing from two men who kicked in his back door in the early hours of the morning.

The victim told police he was asleep around 1:15 a.m. when he heard banging on his back door in the 1000 block of 40th Avenue North.

Once the suspects made entry by kicking in the door, the victim fled outside into his vehicle.

The suspects reportedly chased the man, firing shots toward his car.  One bullet struck him in the torso.

The victim drove himself to St. Thomas Midtown and was later transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Officials stated his injuries are non-life threatening.
