Domestic assault charges against a Middle Tennessee State University basketball player have been retired and he has been reinstated to the team.

Marcus Tarrance, 22, was charged with assaulting his girlfriend following MTSU's win over Akron on November 16.

According to The Daily News Journal, Tarrance's girlfriend told Murfreesboro police he hit her "several times in the last 10 months."

Reports stated she had a swollen black eye and a scratch on her face.

The charges were retired Monday and will be dropped from Tarrance's record altogether if he goes six months without any other criminal charges.

Retired charges typically carry 11 months, 29 days of probation and require community service, but Tarrance's retirement was cut in half without other conditions.

The junior shooting guard has also been reinstated to the team.

"I am pleased with the court's decision and have learned a very valuable lesson," Tarrance said in a statement released by MTSU. "I have missed being with my teammates very much and look forward to rejoining them on the floor."

He is a first year player for the Blue Raiders, starting two out of their first three games before his suspension.
