Ensworth football coaches to miss state championship due to suspension

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association is sticking to its suspensions of two Ensworth High School football coaches.

The decision means head coach Ricky Bowers and assistant coach Paul Wade will miss the team's state championship game on December 5.

The incident that led to the suspension occurred Friday night during the playoffs against Brentwood Academy.

An Ensworth player was pushed by a member of BA's team when he ran out of bounds.  Coach Bowers protested the hit and had a heated discussion with referee Michael Lloyd.

Lloyd then ejected both Ensworth coaches along with the BA player.

Punishment for the ejection is to miss the next game, the state championship between Ensworth and Memphis University School.

The referee was also sanctioned.
