A fire at a storage unit in Old Hickory caused major damage and destroyed several boats and cars late Friday night.
The fire was reported just after 11 p.m. at Vanguard Secure Storage on Martingale Drive.
When crews arrived the fire was fully involved. Firefighters told News 2 at one point the fire came within five feet of another building, but were able to contain it before it spread.
District Fire Chief, Don Alford, told News 2, "Basically what it turned out to be was a storage unit that house boats and RVs, and when we got on the scene, we had some minor explosions going off which turned out to be the propane tanks from the RVs."
It wasn't immediately clear how many storage units were damaged. News 2 has tried to reach out to the storage company but they have not yet responded.
It wasn't immediately clear what sparked the fire. The fire Marshal plans to investigate further Saturday morning.
