NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Police are searching for a man who carjacked two females then crashed the vehicle in south Nashville early Thursday morning.

The incident began at the Delta gas station on the corner of Harding Place and Linbar Drive just before 1 a.m. as two women were pumping gas.

They told police a Hispanic male approached them, pulled a knife and demanded their van.  The women complied.

After the suspect drove off, police located him at a gas station on Bell Road.  As officers were approaching, he sped off, striking another vehicle.

Police did not continue to pursue the suspect due to the high rate of speed, but found the van a few minutes later wrecked in the 5100 block of Linbar Drive.

The suspect had fled on foot.  Authorities have yet to locate him.

The van was returned to the victims.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male wearing a black hat, black jacket and brown pants.
