A man is dead and in his wife in critical condition following a shooting at the couple's home in Spring Hill early Wednesday morning.
Police responded to the home in the 4000 block of Fremantle Circle in the Cherry Grove subdivision off Buckner Road around 4:30 a.m. after the wife, 60-year-old Sue Land, called 911.
Officers found her found barely alive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Her husband, 63-year-old Robert Land, was found dead in the home's master bedroom. He was shot at least once.
Sue Land was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville in critical condition.
"It's shocking and it's unusual for this area. We are just used to a kind of quiet neighborhood this is the first time does been any serious problems that I can remember and I've been here eight years," neighbor William Lasser said.
The Daily Herald in Columbia reported Robert died on the bed from a single gunshot to his torso while Sue was found sitting on an ottoman next to an armoire, bleeding from multiple wounds.
A gun was found under Robert's right thigh.
Investigators also discovered a note, reportedly in male handwriting, on the kitchen counter that gave instructions on the burial site with a list of names and numbers. It was found next to a cell phone, key, and IDs.
When Spring Hill Police Lt. Justin Whitwell was asked who fired the shots, he replied, "I think we've drawn our conclusions, but until we talk to her, we're not going to speculate."
Investigators were unable to question Sue Land because she was mostly unresponsive after undergoing surgery.
