Search for missing boater becomes recovery effort

ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. -

The search for a missing boater near Ashland City has become a recovery effort.

Dickson County EMA officials have suspended the search for Kenneth Elliott, 55, until Wednesday morning.

Elliott was reported missing Monday evening after he never returned home from a fishing trip on Johnson Creek, just off the Cumberland River.

After three hours of searching, crews found Elliott's boat along the edge of Dickson County.

He put his boat in the water on the Cheatham County side, near Cheatham Dam.

News 2 obtained the 911 tape, in which Elliott's brother-in-law called to report him missing.

"I came up to where I thought his boat [was], where he put it in. And his truck and his trailer is here, but not his boat. He doesn't have any night lights on his boat or anything, so he wouldn't be night fishing at all."

The search for Elliott's body will resume Wednesday morning after daybreak.
