A man was arrested Monday after police received a call he was carrying a gun while wearing a police officer's uniform.
Authorities said William Gooch was working "in a law enforcement capacity" by providing security outside of a club on 8th Avenue on November 2.
Upon arrival, police requested Gooch's law enforcement commission card. Gooch provided a card from the Coffee County Sheriff's Department.
The affidavit stated the commission card clearly stated it was only valid in Coffee County and did not serve as a handgun permit.
When asked, Gooch reportedly told police he did not have a handgun carry permit. Authorities stated a computer check confirmed his statement.
Further investigation also revealed Gooch was terminated from the Coffee County Sheriff's Department six years ago.
He was arrested Monday and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and criminal impersonation of a law enforcement officer.
His bond is set at $10,000.
