Green Hills residents oppose new high-rise development plan

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Neighbors gathered to express their frustration in a congested part of Green Hills on Saturday.

Concerned residents say a proposed development will hurt the suburban character of the community.

"We want to be able to see our hills. We believe that 22 stories, 16 stories, even 14 stories is too tall," said Beth O'Shea.

Southern Land will break ground on the development at the corner of Richard Jones Road and Hillsboro Road next summer.

Developers said they have submitted a traffic plan that will reduce driving time on Hillsboro Road.

The plan also calls for improved traffic signals and the addition of another left turn lane from Richard Jones to Hillsboro Roads.

"We are not opposed to redevelopment, we are opposed to a redevelopment of the size that this is talking about," said O'Shea.

Developers told News 2 they are listening to the community's concerns.

Southern Land Company announced this week its plans to reduce the tower to 16 stories from the originally proposed 22 stories.
