SMITHVILLE, Tenn. -

An 81-year-old man escaped his kidnappers by jumping out of the car while they were stopped at a traffic light.

According to WJLE Radio, Amanda Maxwell, 29, lured the victim, an acquaintance of hers, to her home in Smithville, DeKalb County Tuesday.

When the victim arrived, Maxwell allegedly attacked him from behind and forced him into his car at knifepoint with a box cutter.

The elderly victim told police he was forced to withdraw $300 from two ATMs before Maxwell stopped to pickup her friend, 31-year-old Charles Reagan.

Police said the duo planned to visit more ATMs in McMinnville.

Before that happened, however, the victim jumped from the car while they sat at a red light.

Reagan reportedly chased the man for a short time, but he was able to get away and call 911.

The victim suffered minor injuries during his escape.

Maxwell and Reagan were arrested the following day.

Maxwell is charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault and theft over $1,000. Her bond was set at $85,000.

Reagan is charged with aggravated kidnapping and theft over $1,000.

The pair is due in court in DeKalb County on November 21.
