Kentucky tops 1st Associated Press basketball poll of season

Armed with another star studded freshman class, John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats start the college basketball season ranked number one, according to the Associated Press.

The Wildcats received 27 of 65 first place votes.

Michigan State received 22 first place votes and is second in the poll. Louisville and Duke are third and fourth and also received first place votes.

Florida is the only other SEC team ranked to start the season, the Gators come in at number 10.

The Tennessee Volunteers are unranked, but are also the first team outside the poll just four points back of 25th ranked Baylor.

Memphis is the only team in the state to crack the top 25, the Tigers are 13th.
