NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

High winds downed trees and power lines across Middle Tennessee Thursday night and much of the News 2 viewing area was under a tornado watch until 1 a.m.

In Franklin, police tweeted a downed tree briefly blocked Bakers Bridge near Mallory Lane.

In La Vergne Thursday afternoon, a telephone pole snapped, closing a portion of Stones River Road for a short time as crews made repairs.

Just after 8 p.m., thousands of people in the Nashville area were without power.

Many communities opted to postpone Halloween activities Thursday until Friday due to the weather.

Temperatures Friday will be in the 60s, and highs may not escape the 50s this weekend.
