Students inspired to turn school into haunted house

Posted:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A fire that demolished Hillsboro High School on Halloween night in 1952 has inspired around 60 students to transform the school into a haunted house.

The students, assisted by two teachers, decided to host the spooky event in an effort to raise money for the school.

"What's so great about Hillsboro is that during the daytime to two in the afternoon it's scary anyway. It happens to have that 'Nightmare on Elm Street' high school feel to it and so you know you wait until after dark to add a few flourishes here and there, but otherwise leave the place alone," teacher Bradley Brown explained.

Brown told Nashville's News 2 the students, comprised of football players to students in the theater department, have all come together to make the haunted house a success.

"I mean, it's a regular episode of ‘Glee' as far as pulling everybody together, except that I think it's a lot cooler," he said.

Brown said he expects for the haunted house to continue next year.

"Based on word of mouth and feedback that we've gotten, I think people will want us to bring this back next year," he said.

The haunted high school will be open on Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.
