RUSSELLVILLE (WATE) – A man is dead after he was stabbed Monday night in Hamblen County. Authorities say he was stabbed by a 13-year-old boy trying to stop a domestic fight.
Giorgio Kyle, 26, was found stabbed on the porch of his girlfriend's house. Hamblen County Sheriff's Office deputies gave him CPR before he was transported to UT Medical Center, where he later died.
The sheriff says the suspect was Kyle's girlfriend's nephew, who came to his aunt's rescue during an episode of domestic violence.
"He's 13 years old and he thought the only way he could take up for me was to do what he had to do," explained Kelsey Jackson, Kyle's girlfriend.
Kelsey says she'd dated Giorgio for three years. She says she loved him so much, she had his name tattooed on her arms.
"I know that he loved me. No doubt about it," Kelsey said about her late boyfriend, but she says Giorgio did have a problem with violence.
"I'd been cheated on, hit, punched, all that," she added.
After a recent episode of abuse in the home they shared together, Kelsey went to her family's home in Russellville where Giorgio came to see her.
"As soon as I walked outside, Giorgio began screaming, yelling, and he punched me several times," Kelsey said.
As things escalated she says her 13-year-old nephew, who was inside the house, became alarmed. During a confrontation he allegedly stabbed Giorgio with a steak knife.
"He was protecting me. He said ‘Aunt Kelsey, he's going to kill you'. So when he stabbed Giorgio, he said he never meant to hurt him," she said.
"It would indicate to us he was acting in self-defense," said Hamblen County Sheriff Esco Jarnagin.
The sheriff's office has not taken the boy into custody. The family says he's incredibly shaken up by the incident.
"He's 13 and that's going to live on his conscience," Kesley said.
Giorgio Kyle had a criminal history, but his family says he was turning his life around.
The sheriff says they'll present evidence from this case to the district attorney's office. It's unlikely, however, that the teen will face charges because he was acting to protect his aunt.
