A Murfreesboro preschool student was found safe after walking away from the school unattended Friday.
The four-year-old girl left Bellwood-Bowdoin, located in the 1100 block of Middle Tennessee Boulevard, as her class was walking to recess.
Upon realizing the little girl was missing, the teacher immediately issued a missing child code notifying all staff and called Murfreesboro police.
The preschooler was soon spotted by nearby resident Dorris Trigg at the corner of Middle Tennessee Boulevard and Bradyville Crossing around 10:45 a.m.
"I saw this baby was on the highway walking by herself. I said, ‘I got to get her' and brought her home," Trigg said. "I just prayed and I was here and nobody got her or picked her up."
Mother Audra Scales told News 2 she was driving on the interstate when she received a phone call that her young daughter was missing from the school around Noon.
"I'm on the interstate coming from La Vergne to Murfreesboro, so I'm in a panic mode. I start talking to myself like, ‘What? No, this can't be happening.'"
According to the preschool, Scales' daughter wandered off while she was walking with her class to recess just before Noon. The school added the child was found within 30 minutes.
Scales, however, said the school's timeframe of when her daughter was missing does not match up with when Trigg located her.
"From 10 to 12 they don't know where she is," she said. "I mean, my child, my four-year-old, was walking down a busy intersection by herself. There's more you can do. Wipe everybody clean and get people who are going to be more alert counting kids instead of somebody comfortable with assuming."
Scales said she remains unsatisfied with the school's explanation.
