Gunman arrested in fatal Springfield shooting

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. -

The gunman wanted in the murder of Springfield man was arrested overnight Monday.

Tevin "Turk" Harris was arrested just before 1 a.m. Tuesday and charged in the murder of 27-year-old Thomas Smith.

Smith was shot and killed in the 1500 block of Leota Street in Springfield around 11:20 p.m. Sunday night.

According to officials, information obtained by Crime Stoppers and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation led them to Harris' residence in the 400 block of Grace Street.

Springfield police, SWAT officers and the TBI surrounded the home and removed two occupants; however, Harris reportedly refused to surrender.

After introducing tear gas into the home, Harris exited and was taken into custody without incident.

Despite Harris' arrest, authorities said the investigation into Smith's murder will continue.
