Forsberg scores in debut as Predators defeat Wild

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Rookie forward Filip Forsberg scored a power play goal in his season debut to help the Predators defeat the Minnesota Wild 3-2.

The Wild got ahead early on a goal by Zach Parise.  However, the lead was short lived as Nashville scored just over a minute later.

The Predators had a two-man advantage when a Seth Jones shot was redirected and knocked in by Forsberg.

Thirty nine seconds later, now with a one man advantage, the Predators' power play struck again.  This time it was Colin Wilson to find the back of the net.

The third and final Nashville goal came in the first period as well.  At 11:14 in the period, Eric Nystrom forced the puck away from Minnesota.

He attempted to break away across center ice but was tripped up on the attack and collided with Minnesota goaltender Niklas Backstrom.  Nystrom was awarded a penalty shot while Backstrom was injured on the play and forced to leave the ice.

Josh Harding came in to replace Backstrom but could not stop Nystrom's shot.

Minnesota scored again in the second period on a power play goal by Jared Spurgeon.

The win was Nashville's first of the season and the team's home opener.

The Predators return to home ice Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
